Our Story

NXT Bioscience is at the forefront of revolutionizing plant tissue culture production with its cutting-edge AX and TC+ technology platforms. As a leader in agricultural technology,

NXT is not only automating the tissue culture propagation process but setting new standards in the production and distribution of high-health, virus-free plant genetics for breeders around the globe. This breakthrough technology is unlocking a whole new realm of possibilities for high-value plant genetics and breeding projects previously thought to be beyond reach with conventional tissue culture methods, including bioenergy crops and the establishment of dedicated bioenergy plantations as renewable energy sources.

The AX technology platform delivers an unprecedented efficiency boost of over 1000% compared to standard tissue culture techniques.

NXT Bioscience, founded by Daniel Mansfield, was initially set up to transform the bioenergy sector. With an aim to create renewable biomass supply chains for the emerging bioeconomy, using genetically optimised crops, selected to grow on marginal, degraded, and contaminated lands.

The vision was to establish bioenergy plantations as a sustainable energy source, aid soil restoration and provide a carbon sink, while conserving valuable arable land for food production.

However, traditional plant tissue culture posed a significant hurdle for producing bioenergy crops. Its high cost and labour-intensity challenged the economic feasibility of creating dedicated bioenergy plantations, necessitating a technological breakthrough.

A pivotal moment occurred in 2022 when Daniel connected with Greg Lowe, a leading plant tissue culture scientist, founder of Lowes TC, and the inventor of the AX and TC+ technology platforms.

Greg's aim was to develop the world's first automated plant tissue culture platform. This vision aligned perfectly with NXT's need for a solution that could establish bioenergy plantations that were economically viable.

The two entities joined forces to fund research aimed at reducing the cost of energy crops using AX technology.

The Trawalla group recognised the transformative potential of the AX technology—not only for NXT's bioenergy model but also for the global agricultural and horticultural markets.

It saw a significant opportunity to merge NXT and Lowes TC, aiming to equip both Greg and Daniel with shared resources to continue to tackle their respective challenges.

Trawalla’s investment in NXT enabled the strategic acquisition of Lowes TC and the innovative AX and TC+ platforms.

Lowes TC, now an integral part of NXT Bioscience, will continue producing and supplying high-quality tissue culture.

At the core of our mission is the advancement of high-health plant tissue culture programs, with the aim of transforming propagation supply chains.

Thanks to these collaborative efforts and strategic investments, NXT Bioscience is poised to revolutionise global propagation supply chains. This breakthrough technology is set to redefine plant tissue culture production, establishing AX as the new standard for producing and distributing high-health, virus-free plant genetics. It will also unlock new plant breeding projects such as the creation of new and dedicated bioenergy plantations.
